Who is ninety2?

The man behind ninety2 is Simon East.  Read on if you would like to learn more about him.

Ultimate experience

Simon started playing Ultimate during his final year at Leeds University and made his first appearance for Leeds Jedi in 2003.  During his year travelling in 2004-05 he took part in the Melbourne Hat and on his return to England he started playing with Sheffield Steal

It was in 2006 that he played his first UK Tour event, as part of the Steal 2 team at Mixed Tour 1 in York.  He missed out on a place in the Steal Mixed team that went to WUCC in Perth, but cemented his place on the open first team by the end of the 2006 season.  Since that time, Simon has gone on to become club treasurer and then captain of Steal, and played an important role in the club's success in 2008 (finishing 10th at EUCR-W in September of that year).

Having returned to the University scene during his time at Sheffield Hallam, Simon was influential in the creation of a new team, Hallam Ultimate, and competed with the team for two years.  He has also had the honour of wearing National colours, competing for Great Britain in the Mixed division at the World Championships of Beach Ultimate in Brazil in December 2007.

Simon will be continuing in his role as Club Captain of Sheffield Steal in the 2010 season and has been a member of the UKUA Competitions Committee since its inception in 2007.

In September 2009, Simon was named UKU Indoors Director of Competitions.

Education and working life

Simon's background is mainly financial, having studied for an Undergraduate degree in Accounting and Management at the University of Leeds.  His favourite module at that time was in Football Finance, where he studied the transfer dealings of three Premier League football clubs for a final year project.  Since then he has gone on to complete a Masters degree in Sport Management at Sheffield Hallam University and focused his study on events, culminating in a dissertation project based on the World Ultimate & Guts Championships.

He currently works part-time in finance within the NHS in Sheffield, allowing him plenty of time to work on other projects (see above), as well as working as an event co-ordinator at Pond Forge International Sports Centre

Additionally, Simon is an authorised distributor with the Utility Warehouse Discount Club.  The Utility Warehouse provide the UK's best value gas, electricity, telephony and broadband services to members - for more information, click here.
