More bang for your buck!

For anyone who attended the Sheffield Hat in 2010, you will know that it didn't quite go to plan in terms of what was offered, due to the low number of participants.  However, it was an amazing tournament and hopefully 2011 will be more of the same, and then some!!

Here is what you will be getting for your money:

-  2 days of 5-on-5 Ultimate

-  3 pitches

-  2 nights accommodation

-  2 breakfasts

-  2 parties

-  1 Lookfly techinical shirt

-  beer/cider

-  Saturday MVP show-game (inc fantasy ultimate)

-  evening buffet

-  GAIA Spirit Sponsorship

Accommodation

Anyone who has been to an indoor tournament in Sheffield in recent years will probably know the Scout Hall on Trippet Lane.  Once again we will be using this fine accommodation for your good selves.

It's going to be a little more complicated this year as there are other groups using the hall but it should work out fine:

  -  no access until 10.30pm on Friday

  -  all belongings will have to go into one of the smaller rooms during Saturday

  -  everyone must be out by 9am (tbc) on Sunday

Friday night

The Sheffield Hat 2011 kicks off at 8pm in The Red Deer pub on Pitt Street.  For anyone who attended in 2010, this is the very same place as we used then.

The registration desk will be located downstairs somewhere (exact location TBC) and you will need to come and sign in on arrival.  Here you will be given your player packs and team kit, and you can pay any fees which are still outstanding.  There is plenty of space in the pub to relax with a local ale and we will also have access to the upstairs function room from 8.30pm, so you can put your bags out of the way.

Can I please ask everyone who is over 18 to please bring I.D. with you - the pub runs a Challenge 21 policy so you will need it (and you will also need it for Saturday night).

We'll arrange to get people down to the scout hall from 11pm.

You can park your cars at the scout hall and then walk up to the pub if you wish.  Use the maps below to find your way!  The walking route map also shows the location of the scout hall.

Saturday night

The evening starts at the Stardust Bar at 7.30pm for our own private pre-party.  There will be a buffet served up around 8pm (there should be plenty for everyone!) which includes a free beer or wine (tbc).  We'll have some music playing and if we're lucky we'll get the use of the revolving dancefloor as well.

Under 18s are welcome (indeed they are encouraged) to come along to this part of the evening but obviously you will not be able to purchase alcohol.  All over 18s should bring ID

At 11.30pm we will head to the wonderland that is Leadmill.  You will be given a voucher with your player pack which entitles you to reduced entry.  It sshould cost you £2 to get in rather than the usual door price of £4+.  There are usually plenty of cheap drinks and cheap thrills on offer!!  Anyone who came last year will know what I mean!

Pitch location

We are now using the same venue as in 2010, Graves Tennis Centre on the Bochum Parkway.  The downside to the venue is the lack of shelter so hopefully we will have better weather than last year!  There's a small cafe on site, and we obviously have access to showers, toilets, drinking water etc.  There's plenty of car parking (though we hope to provide transport from the accommodation for most) and there's a pub a short walk away and supermarkets close by.

Spirit

We all know that SPIRIT is a vital element to our sport, but perhaps even more so than usual at a Hat Tournament where we have a mix of experience playing alongside each other.

This year we have teamed up with Jump + Reach | GAIA Europe to provide spirit winners with their very own limited edition Spirit of the Game disc.

After each match teams at the Hat need to submit their spirit scores in line with the WFDF/BULA system, and also nominate one player from their opposition as the most spirited player.  At the end of the weekend, the team receiving the highest average on the WFDF system will receive a black Spirit disc, and the most nominated player from each team will receive a white Spirit disc.

Other prizes

Here is the full list of prizes available at the Hat this year:

-  Each member of the winning team will receive a medal

-  The MVP from each team gets an Adidas mini-football thanks to Right To Play

-  The MVP of the show game gets a Lookfly goodie bag

-  The most spirited team gets the black GAIA Spirit disc

-  The most spirited player on each team gets a white GAIA Spirit disc

-  Cash up for grabs for the winner of the Fantasy Ultimate sweepstake
